About Hope Clinic
Mission statement: “Hope Clinic exists to share the love of Jesus Christ by partnering with our community to provide primary health care and resources for healthy living to the underserved population. The purpose of Hope Clinic is to reflect Christ’s love to the underserved population in Garland, Texas, by providing primary health care services, spiritual support and assistance in identifying community resources.”
According to their website, numerous underserved residents without private insurance benefit from Hope Clinic’s services. Often referred to as “working poor,” these individuals have jobs but cannot afford the high cost of health insurance.
History
Hope Clinic is the only free clinic in the Garland area. It began as a ministry of First Baptist Church Garland when two church members saw the need to provide health care to the uninsured. The clinic has now been fulfilling that goal for almost 20 years.
At first, the clinic was open one night per week. However, as the need grew, the organization moved to a larger facility and added additional hours. In 2009, the organization obtained its status as a 501(c)(3) and began a partnership with Baylor Scott-White Health System. Partnerships now include the Health Texas Partner Network, Parkland Health/Dallas Hospital District. In addition, there are numerous specialty practices that aid in the diagnoses of patients.
At present, the organization provides health care for approximately 8,000 patients per year. The physicians, nurses and volunteer health care professionals give their time to deliver quality services to the working poor population. In addition, Hope Clinic offers wellness education to patients by addressing all aspects of well-being – physical, emotional, spiritual, psychological and intellectual.
Every $1 Donated Provides $6 Dollars in Free Medical Care Hope Clinic of Garland.
