Downtown construction update: Main Street reopens

Jul. 6, 2022

Construction on the Downtown Square is progressing to Phase 2. Despite a few supply chain issues, Main Street has recently reopened, and the construction has moved to State Street.

State Street between Sixth and Fifth streets, including the entire intersection at Fifth Street, is currently closed. The businesses will remain open and so will the adjacent sidewalks. This section of State Street will be closed for approximately five to six months as construction continues. State Street between Sixth and Seventh streets remains closed to through traffic for the next couple of weeks, but parking is available.

Fifth Street between Main and State streets will remain closed for the first few months of this phase while work is done on the intersection of Fifth and State. Work is continuing on streetscapes in the broader area, including Avenue A and State Street between Sixth Street and Glenbrook Drive.

There is plenty of free public parking available throughout the downtown area, so please be sure to continue supporting the downtown Garland businesses. There are also lots of fun activities going on throughout the summer. You can find all the details at VisitGarlandTX.com.
