Dec. 1, 2022

On Nov. 30, at approximately 10:09 pm, Garland Police Department officers stopped a Dodge Charger in the 3800 block of W. Walnut Street for traffic violations. The officers made contact with the occupants of the vehicle, but the driver took off. The officers pursued the fleeing vehicle for several minutes, but due to the suspect’s speed, the officers slowed and briefly lost sight of the fleeing Charger. The suspect vehicle continued at high speeds until it struck a pickup truck and then struck a pole, at S. Greenville Ave. and Centennial Blvd. in Richardson. The total time from the traffic stop to the accident was approximately three minutes.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as 25-year-old Luismauricio Perez Ortiz, of Dallas, was killed during the crash. The occupants of the suspect vehicle and the driver of the pickup received minor injuries.

Additionally, officers located narcotics and a large amount of U.S. currency in the suspect vehicle.

GPD Detectives are still investigating the reason why the suspects fled the traffic stop.
