A Garland ISD student not only represented the district on NBC’s World of Dance. He also recently brought the entire title home.
Armstrong Elementary School fourth grader Ayden Nguyen was crowned as the season two champion along with his dance group, The Lab. They beat out nearly sixty other acts, and in addition to bragging rights, their title came with a grand prize of $1 million.
Nguyen actually began teaching himself how to dance as a toddler. He would watch music videos on an iPad and then mimic those moves. At age five, he started taking professional classes. And, World of Dance is not Nguyen’s first brush with fame. He has also performed in the Kids Choice Awards and onstage with Justin Bieber. He is also a member of the Dallas Cowboys Rhythm & Blue Rookie Squad, which dances at AT&T Stadium during home games. One more fun fact is that The Lab personally recruited Nguyen, and he was the youngest and only Texas-based dancer in the group.
But despite all of his achievements, Nguyen remains a typical, grounded 9-year-old. He plays soccer, enjoys reading biographies, loves math and history and is an A student. He also wants to play football at Louisiana State University one day and to become Justin Timberlake’s choreographer.
Nguyen gave the Garland ISD Board of Trustees an encore performance this fall as they recognized him with an Evidence of Excellence award.
