Epiroc Drilling Solutions, formerly Atlas Copco Drilling Solutions, continues with more exciting growth and investment momentum in Garland. Recently approved plans call for a major financial investment in their existing 33-acre campus at 2100 North First Street. The current 260,000 square foot office and manufacturing facility will undergo a $14 million expansion later this year. The planned investment includes $7 million in building and production area enhancements and another $7 million in new machinery and equipment.
Epiroc Drilling Solutions LLC has a well-established history in Garland. Ingersoll-Rand Drilling Solutions started manufacturing and distributing drilling equipment in Garland in 1981 and the operation was purchased in 2004 by Atlas Copco Drilling Solutions. Atlas Copco, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, split into two separate companies in January 2018. In June 2018, Epiroc became a publicly traded company on the Stockholm Nasdaq exchange. Atlas Copco, also publicly traded, primarily targets industrial customers while Epiroc focuses on customers in the mining, infrastructure and natural resources sectors.
“We have built many successful long-term partnerships with universities, our customers and the City. We are looking forward to the many enhancements to our facility over the next several years.” said Jon Torpy, vice president of Marketing at Epiroc Drilling Solutions.
Garland is now the global headquarters for Epiroc Drilling Solutions. From this location, all aspects of manufacturing, R&D, finance, sales and marketing, customer support, personnel and executive management originate for the newly-created company. At present, Epiroc has over 400 employees that design, build and ship machinery to over 30 countries for sophisticated mining, oil and gas, waterwell and automation operations.
“Atlas Copco, and now Epiroc Drilling Solutions, has been a great long-term partner for the City. Their recent decisions to have Garland be their global headquarters and further invest in expanding their existing facility and campus says so much about their strong commitment to our community,” said David Gwin, Garland’s director of Economic Development.
