FEMA has approved Individual Assistance for Dallas County, making residents eligible for serious needs assistance, basic home repairs, personal property losses, and other qualifying expenses related to storm damage. Residents affected by the May 28 storm can apply using one of four ways:
- Web: disasterassistance.gov
- Mobile: Download the FEMA App
- Phone: 800-621-3362
- In Person: Find a Disaster Recovery Center at fema.gov/drc
Disaster Survivor Assistance (DSA) crews will also be visiting neighborhoods in the City of Garland starting Friday, June 7, to help residents apply for assistance, identify potential needs and help make connections with local, state, federal and voluntary agencies. Crews will be easily recognizable by their official FEMA photo identification.
Residents should be aware that con artists and criminals may try to obtain money or steal personal information through fraud or identity theft after a disaster. In some cases, thieves try to apply for FEMA assistance using names, addresses and Social Security numbers they have stolen from storm victims.
Remember:
- Federal and local disaster workers do not solicit or accept money.
- Be wary of unexpected phone calls or visits to your home.
- If you receive a letter and did not apply for assistance, please call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362.
Always:
- Ask to see a FEMA ID.
- Report fraud at 866-720-5721.
Additionally, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits have been approved for Dallas County as well. Recipients have until June 30 to request benefits for lost or spoiled food due to the recent storm.
