Eight Garland ISD seniors received recognition for their hard work and dedication in fine arts at the annual Granville Gala April 26 at the Curtis Culwell Center. Despite the threat of severe weather, families, staff and world-class industry professionals gathered to honor the outstanding fine arts students.
Actor and Rowlett High School graduate Ashton McClerin, longtime stage and screen actress Linda Leonard, dancer and actor Morgana Shaw and President and Managing Director of Dallas Summer Musicals Michael Jenkins all provided words of encouragement.
“Mr. Jenkins shared amusing stories about his career,” said GISD Fine Arts Coordinator Brenda Hass. “But he was most inspiring when he spoke of his humble beginnings and odd jobs that led him to where he is today.”
Hass ended the night on a high note, presenting each student with a $700 Veritex Bank Scholarship.
“These scholarships have been awarded on merit. These students have acted on stage, worked behind the scenes and supported other shows in the district with their attendance,” Hass said. “They are thespians and leaders in their departments. We are honored to recognize their leadership and wish them the best in the years ahead.”
