Football recap: Owls, Rangers get wins

Thursday, Oct. 8, contests included games that pitted the Garland Owls against the North Garland Raiders as well as the Naaman Forest Rangers against the South Garland Colonels.

 

Garland Owls get win over North Garland Raiders

The Garland Owls got a 42-0 victory over the North Garland Raiders Thursday, Oct. 8, at Williams Stadium. Quarterback Cergio Perez threw for 301 yards, five TDs and ended the game at 16-24. Jordan Hudson caught three of Perez’s throws for 129 yards and scored three touchdowns. Ellis Rogers also had four catches with 65 yards and two touchdowns. Charles Allen caught four passes for 84 yards.

 

Jayshon Powers carried the ball nine times for 72 yards and a touchdown.

 

The Owls put together an impressive 510 total yards on the game and had 17 first downs.

The Raiders were unable to score against the GHS defense.

 

Naaman Forest Rangers defeat South Garland Colonels

 

The Naaman Forest Rangers got a 44-7 victory over the South Garland Colonels Thursday, Oct. 8, at Garland’s Homer B. Johnson Stadium.

 

Kingsley Bennett carried the ball 16 times for 187 yards and scored two touchdowns. Ja’Hari Lee had 5 carries and scored two touchdowns. Darius Brown and Devean Deal each scored one TD.

 

Quarterback Jaden Flores ended the night at 8-13 for 40 yards.

 

The Rangers collected 343 total yards on the night.

 

The Rangers’ defense got an interception and blocked a punt.

 

South Garland Colonels’ quarterback Jalil Brown ended the game completed 11 of 23 pass attempts with 147 yards and one touchdown when he connected with Tyreon Kay. Damon Rouwtt had four catches for 106 yards on the game.

 

The Colonels put together 218 total yards on the night.

 

The Rowlett Eagles and Sachse Mustangs game was canceled. This week was the second game cancellation for the Eagles. The Lakeview Centennial Patriots game against Wylie High School was also canceled.
