Week two of district play ended in wins for the Eagles, Mustangs and Patriots.

 

Wylie HS defeats Garland HS

 

The Garland Owls (3-2, 1-1) were defeated by Wylie HS (2-3, 2-0) Thursday, Sept. 26 at Williams Stadium by a score of 50-21. Jordan Hudson scored in both the first and second quarters on 5- and 10-yard pass receptions from quarterback Cergio Perez. Jaytric Geter got the other GHS score on a 21-yard pass reception from Perez.

 

Perez ended the game at 18-27 for 222 yards. Hudson had 11 catches for 133 yards. Wylie HS shut down the Owls’ running game, allowing only 40 rushing yards.

Eagles get win over Raiders

 

The Rowlett Eagles (2-3, 2-0) got a 27-26 win over the North Garland Raiders (4-1, 1-1) Thursday, Sept. 26. Colton Yarborough scored first for RHS on a 5-yard run. Antonio Hull added a TD on a 36-yard pass reception from Alex Routt. Routt scored again in the third quarter on a 23-yard run and Hull got another score in the fourth on a 43-yard pass

reception from Routt.

 

Routt completed eight passes for 148 yards and rushed for 100 yards. Hull had three catches for 95 yards.

 

North Garland scored on a 2-yard run by Sabron Woods. Trey Taylor then scored on a 79-yard kickoff return. Woods scored two more TDs, on 5- and 52-yard runs. Quarterback Timothy Gauthier finished the night at 10-16 with 106 yards. Woods carried the ball 24 times for 129 yards.

 

Patriots get victory over Colonels

 

Lakeview Centennial (3-2, 1-1) defeated South Garland (1-4, 0-2) by a score of 62-3 Friday, Sept. 27. Camar scored four times for LCHS on 15-, 3-, 2- and 2-yard runs in the first quarter. Garnett Burke returned a punt 45 yards for a score and Zechariah Dunston also scored on a 13-yard run.  In the third quarter, Jalen Davis got a TD for the Patriots on a 17-yard pass reception from quarterback Jarret Adams and Michael Hierro scored on a 9-yard rush. In the fourth, Dunston added another TD on a 5-yard run.

 

Hierro carried the ball four times for 102 yards. Adams finished the night at 7-10 with 70 yards.

 

Giovanni Serrano hit a 37-yard Colonels’ field goal. SGHS QB Demarcus Duncan passed for 92 yards.

SHS gets win over NFHS

 

The Mustangs (3-2, 1-1) defeated the Rangers (0-5, 0-2) Friday, Sept. 28 at Williams Stadium. The score was 42-28. Jordan Nabors scored for SHS in the first quarter on 69- and 7-yard pass receptions from quarterback Parker Wells. Shon Coleman added a TD in the second quarter on an 8-yard rush. Coleman scored twice in the second half on 3- and 1-yard runs and Ryan Jones added an 18-yard interception return in the fourth quarter.

 

Wells was 6-11 with 115 yards. Coleman carried the ball 36 times for 228 yards.

 

SHS coaches’ picks included Braelon Williams as offensive lineman of the week. They recognized Xavier Forman for his skill with 75 yards passing and 12 yards rushing. Their pick for offensive MVP was Shon Coleman with 228 rushing yards, three TDs and 17 receiving yards. Ryan Jones was recognized for four tackles, a QB pressure and an interception returned for a score. Jordan Brooks stood out for defensive skill for eight tackles and solid play. Defensive MVP was Matthew Carter with five tackles. Special teams player Addison Perez was recognized for hitting all PATs and making a TD-saving tackle.

Devean Deal scored twice in the first half for the Rangers on a 37-yard pass reception from Austin Valdez and on an 18-yard interception return.

 

Kingsley Bennett also scored two TDs in the first on a 73-yard run and on a 6-yard pass reception from Jayden Flores. Bennett collected 134 yards on 17 carries.
