The death of a former Garland Police Department Chief, Jesse C. Youngblood, inspired kind words and tributes from many who worked with him in the police department and in the community.
Youngblood worked in the police department between 1958-1991. He served as Garland’s Chief of Police for 20 years.
A post on the GPD Facebook page said that he was forward-thinking in his use of technology, better training and equipment. Under Youngblood’s leadership, the Garland PD became the first in Texas to install computers in patrol cars.
The tribute on Facebook also says that he emphasized recruiting officers from college campuses and that he understood the importance of community-oriented policing.
Youngblood’s dedication to the police department and the community positively affected the lives and careers of many people that came after him.
“Chief Youngblood was the most progressive chief in this area at that time.” – former Garland Police Chief Larry Wilson
