Fun at sensory-friendly Christmas party

Dec. 9, 2022

The city of Garland hosted its annual sensory friendly Christmas celebration Thursday, Dec.8 at City Hall. The event is small and quiet for those with sensory issues. People who have anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, PTSD, autism and other sensory disorders are more comfortable in quieter, calmer environments. sensory The event was geared toward children, but everyone was welcome to join in the fun. There was a number of great activities. Children had an opportunity to get photos with Santa and talk to him about their wish lists. There was a face painting station along with a glitter tattoo artist and several opportunities to create works of art. Kids could color pictures, decorate Christmas tree ornaments and more. There was also a very popular cocoa bar with whipped cream, marshmallows and sprinkles. The Grinch was on hand for fun and photos as was Frosty the Snowman. Mayor Scott LeMay, along with Council Members Jeff Bass-District 1, Deborah Morris-District 2, B.J. Williams-District 4 and Margaret Lucht-District 5 were in attendance to visit with the families. City of Garland staff outdid themselves. The celebration was a great success. On a personal note, I must say that it has been a long time since I’ve seen so many smiling faces in one place. What a great party!
