When a local Boy Scout thought about ideas for his Eagle Scout service project, he didn’t have to look further than his grandmother’s home. Thomas Lee Hermann, 17-year-old Garland resident, recently completed the challenge of renewing the trail and constructing raised gardens and benches for his grandmother and other residents of The Monarch at Richardson, an assisted living and memory care community.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Tuesday, Nov. 17, at the community located at 1493 Richardson Dr., Richardson and Thomas was recognized for his contributions by special guests including Richardson Mayor Paul Voelker.
“Thomas has given the residents a true gift especially in this time of the pandemic when the residents really appreciate their time outdoors in nature,” said Kim Horn, The Monarch at Richardson general manager. “He embodies the true generous spirit of the Boy Scouts.”
Achieving the rank of Eagle scout is an extremely rigorous process. The most intense aspect is planning and executing the service project that benefits the community.
The improved outdoor recreation area is one of several changes underway at The Monarch. The senior living community is currently undergoing a $850,000 renovation project including a new movie theater, updates to gathering spaces and new décor. The renovation reflects true Texas culture.
In addition, the community will boast new patio furniture. The renovation is expected to be completed before the end of the year.
