Garland a longtime home like no other in North Texas

Mar. 8, 2024

A study released in February based on U.S. Census Bureau information lists Garland as the No. 4 city in the nation in “Cities Where Homeowners Stick.” People come to Garland and make it their longtime home far more often than in any other city in North Texas.

More than a third of Garlandites, 36.6%, have lived in their homes for 14 years or longer. That percentage is more than 6% higher than the next area city, Plano, which rates 39th on the national list.

“With historic migration, occurring during and after the pandemic, Americans clearly reevaluated what home means to them” states a resulting study by home improvement specialist All Star Homes. Nearly one in five Americans has lived in their current home two years or less.

All Star Homes weighed in average home value to find that Garland is the No. 10 “Most Affordable Beloved U.S. City” in the country. Again, that is tops for the area, with the closest North Texas city coming in at No. 45.
