The city of Garland is continuing its award-winning tradition at state conferences. This year the Public & Media Relations Department and Visit Garland, the city’s Convention & Visitors Bureau, each earned several state awards. The two departments collaborated on several of the award-winning projects.
Garland earned seven awards at the Texas Association of Convention and Visitor Bureaus Annual Conference. The Idea Fair promotes excellence in destination marketing.
Visit Garland won four “People’s Choice” Idea Fair awards and three “Judges Choice” Idea Fair awards. Garland competed in the Under $1,000,000 budget category and won awards for the following:
- Local Awareness – Garland Design Challenge
Judges Award and 1st Place People’s Choice Awards
A collaboration with the City’s image campaign, “Make Your Mark,” to increase art inventory by reaching out to local artists. - Pandemic Recovery – Fair Fare on the Square

Popular eateries in Downtown Garland were working hard to survive the pandemic in 2020. The inaugural “Fair Fare on the Square” included 13 participating restaurants in Downtown Garland that offered State Fair-themed (fried) foods all of September. - Sports Marketing – Sports Facility Guide and Video Campaign

The campaign included a promotional video, an all-inclusive document and a dedicated webpage outlining the facilities and venues. - Video: Staycation Video – Garland Getaway

With the pandemic halting all travel, our local community and the close-by drive market quickly became our focus. The goal was to create a leisure traveler video showing safe outdoor and socially distancing activities for the entire family to enjoy in Garland.
