The city of Garland is recognized for excellence in communications, earning seven awards from the 2018 Texas Association of Municipal Information Officers Conference in early June.

The video, The Hunt for the Orange Traffic Cones, earned a first-place TAMI Award in the Marketing Public Service Announcement category for cities with populations of more than 100,000. This video was created to raise awareness of the dramatic increase in street projects underway throughout Garland. It was produced completely in-house using special animation techniques to bring an orange traffic cone to life!

The city’s New Year’s Eve Fireworks PSA earned an Award of Excellence in two categories: Best Use of Humor and Educational Public Service Announcement for cities with populations of more than 120,000. This video uses humor to remind residents that fireworks are illegal in the city, including in city parks.

The special feature, Cattail Mike: A Garland Story, earned an Award of Excellence in the Special or One-Time Program category for cities with populations of more than 100,000. This video tells the story of a unique craftsman who creates beautiful, hand-woven chairs.

The Garland City Press brought home the Award of Excellence in the Print-External Newsletter category. The Garland City Press is the city’s bi-monthly newsletter produced to keep residents informed of city-sponsored events and activities. It is distributed to all residential addresses in Garland and also is available on the city’s website.

In the Internal Communications category, COGnotes earned the Award of Excellence for cities with populations of more than 100,000. COGnotes is a weekly e-newsletter that goes out to all city employees.

In the Print-Special Publication category, Garland earned an Award of Excellence for the 2018 Reduce, Reuse and Recycle Calendar, for cities with a population of more than 100,000.
