Garland libraries offer mobile hot spots

Jun. 7, 2022

Need internet access? The Garland Library is now offering mobile hot spots, devices that use wireless cellular technology, to provide users with internet access for their tablets, computers, gaming consoles and other Wi-Fi enabled devices.

The hot spots are portable and allow users to connect up to 15 devices with unlimited data at no charge to the user. The Garland Library is providing the devices as a way to increase internet access among the city’s residents. Initially, the library will offer 50 mobile hot spots, with a select number available at each library location.

Garland residents, ages 18 and older with library accounts in good standing, may check out one hot spot per adult library card. Hot spots will check out for one week and may be placed on hold, though the library will not be able to guarantee availability for a specific time or date. Citizens may renew the hot spots if no one else is waiting.

Staff ask that hot spots be returned to the library’s Circulation Desk and not via the exterior materials returns in order to prevent damage. Borrowers agree to return hot spots in the same condition received. Borrowers must reimburse the library for lost, damaged or stolen equipment. Service to overdue hot spots will be discontinued and the units made unusable after 48 hours. Hot spots not returned within seven days after the due date will be assumed lost, and the borrower charged. For more information about mobile hot spots, visit Library.GarlandTX.gov or call 972-205-2501.
