A Garland long-term care facility has earned a national honor for its commitment to improving the quality of care for its residents. Pleasant Valley Health Care and Rehab has been awarded the 2019 Silver – Achievement in Quality Award by the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL). The award is the second of three distinctions possible through the AHCA/NCAL National Quality Award Program, which spotlights providers across the nation that have demonstrated their dedication to improving quality of care for residents and patients in long term and post-acute care.
The facility was among six across Texas to earn the honor, despite one of the lowest Medicaid reimbursement rates in the country that’s left its more than 1,200 nursing homes scrambling to provide quality care.
“We congratulate the staff of Pleasant Valley Health Care and Rehabilitation in achieving this special recognition despite the state funding challenges nursing homes operating in Texas face. Funding from the state for Texas nursing homes is among the lowest in the nation, and that dynamic continues to fuel a staffing crisis that complicates the delivery of consistent, quality care. Texas nursing homes continue to do more with less, but unless the state’s funding trend changes, our state will continue to lag in overall quality of care provided to senior Texans,” said Kevin Warren, president and CEO of the Texas Health Care Association.
Based on the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Baldrige Performance Excellence Program, the AHCA/NCAL’s National Quality Award Program challenges member providers to achieve performance excellence through three progressive levels — bronze, silver and gold. At the silver level, members develop and demonstrate effective approaches that help improve organizational performance and health care outcomes. Recipients of the 2019 silver award may now apply for the Gold – Excellence in Quality Award by further developing comprehensive strategies that meet the demands of the full Health Care Criteria for Performance Excellence. A full list of the recipients is available on the AHCA/NCAL Quality Awards website here.
AHCA/NCAL will announce the 2019 Gold — Excellence in Quality award recipients in the coming months. The National Quality Award Program is sponsored by AHCA/NCAL associate business members: First Quality, NRC Health and Team TSI Corporation.
