Be sure to make plans to attend the 2023 Garland National Day of Prayer.
When: Thursday, May 4, from 11 a.m. – noon
Where: Lavon Drive Baptist Church, 1520 Lavon Drive in Garland
This year, last year and even into the foreseeable future, there is a need to cry out for divine guidance and help. It’s not only the school shootings, economic pressures and uncertainties or the reality of a worldwide pandemic. It’s the fear people have of many unknowns without the benefit of institutional support.
Church attendance is down. Businesses like Sears that were in business for over one hundred years have closed. The family as an institution is challenged. Globally, depression and anxiety have increased significantly.
Prayer gives believers and seekers strength to endure, even when all the supporting props are removed, like not having 100% confidence that our bank deposits would be safe; our schools secure and our homes warm in winter. Through prayer, we can experience failures, insecurities and deep emotional turmoil. We can walk through the valley of the shadow of death itself. Prayer provides an anchor for the soul even in turbulent times, particularly when we have developed a relationship with the object of our appeals to Heaven.
Garland’s National Day of Prayer has been a time-honored source of strength for over 20 years. We have prayed after tragedies, and we have rejoiced during times of celebration.
As always, everyone is welcome. Pastors and organizational leaders are asked to register at www.myevent.com/GarlandNDP2023.

About: The National Day of Prayer is an annual observance held on the first Thursday of May, inviting people to pray for the nation. It was created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress, and signed into law by President Harry S. Truman. Our Task Force is a privately funded organization whose purpose is to encourage participation on the National Day of Prayer. It exists to communicate with every individual the need for personal repentance and prayer, to create appropriate materials, and to mobilize the Christian community to intercede for America’s leaders and its families. The Task Force represents a Judeo-Christian expression of the national observance, based on our understanding that this country was birthed in prayer and in reverence for the God of the Bible.
