Garland PD steps up more than DWI patrols for July 4th holiday

Jul. 3, 2024

The Garland Police Department will step up patrols this Independence Day holiday to target illegal gunshots and fireworks violations. As residents celebrate the nation’s independence, the safety of our community remains GPD’s top priority.

Starting July 3 and continuing through July 5, Garland police officers will be on alert to identify and respond to any illegal gunfire or fireworks activities. This increased patrol is part of our ongoing effort to ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday for all residents.

“Independence Day is a time for celebration, but it should not come at the expense of our community’s safety,” said Chief Jeff Bryan. “Illegal gunshots and fireworks pose significant risks, and we are committed to enforcing these laws to keep everyone safe.”

Increased patrol, enforcement

The Garland Police Department will deploy additional officers throughout the city who will focus on:

Discharge of firearms: Firing guns into the air is not only illegal but extremely dangerous, as stray bullets can cause serious injury or death. Violators will be subject to arrest and prosecution.

Illegal fireworks: The use, possession or sale of fireworks within city limits is prohibited. Violators can face fines and confiscation of fireworks.

How Residents Can Help: Residents are encouraged to celebrate responsibly and report any illegal activity. To report violations, call the non-emergency line at 972-485-4840. For emergencies or immediate threats to safety, dial 911.

Stay Informed and Stay Safe: Follow the Garland Police Department on social media for updates and safety tips throughout the holiday. Let’s work together to ensure a safe and enjoyable Independence Day for everyone.

“By respecting these laws and celebrating responsibly, we can all enjoy a festive and safe holiday,” Chief Bryan added.
