Garland police respond to protesters blocking traffic, business entrances

Mar. 8, 2024

On March 7, just after 4:30 a.m., the Garland Police Department responded to the report of protesters outside the General Dynamics plant located in Garland. Upon arrival, officers observed numerous individuals and vehicles completely obstructing both the northbound and southbound lanes of North Glenbrook Drive.

Additionally, vehicles and protestors were observed blocking entrances to the business, preventing employees from leaving or arriving at the location.

Efforts were made by GPD officers to request the protesters’ cooperation in relocating their demonstration and cease the obstruction of the roadways and business entrances. Despite these efforts, several individuals verbally expressed their refusal to comply with the officers’ requests. Following a period of negotiation and appeals to clear the obstructed areas, multiple individuals were arrested, and the vehicles were towed.

Officers arrested 23 individuals. Some were charged with Obstructing a Roadway, while others faced charges of Criminal Trespass.

In addition, 24 vehicles were towed from the scene to facilitate the restoration of normal traffic flow and business operations.

A considerable number of the individuals taken into custody were residents of cities across Texas, with two individuals identified as residents outside of the state.

The Garland Police Department remains committed to facilitating peaceful demonstrations while ensuring the safety and mobility of the public. The individuals taken into custody surrendered peacefully, and there were no altercations during the incident.
