The city of Garland’s Wastewater Treatment Department received the Water Environment Federation (WEF) Safety Award for 2018. This award demonstrates the hard work of every treatment employee and their commitment to being good stewards of the environment and fostering a safe work environment. During 2015, 2016 and 2017 there were zero lost time incidents at the Duck Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The award was presented to Managing Director of Garland Water Utilities Wes Kucera, Director of Wastewater and Staff Bill Gase, Duck Creek Plant Superintendent Alex Stuart, Rowlett Creek Plant Superintendent Malcolm Parker, Laboratory Services Manager Fred Norris and Pretreatment Manager Stephen Connor.
The WEF Safety Award encourages active and effective safety programs in the water environment field, and recognizes entities that not only invest their resources to develop high-quality safety programs and adopt them within their own culture, but also actively seek out opportunities to share these programs with others in the industry for the benefit of all. This award is presented annually by the WEF to an industry, municipality, organization, utility or other entity engaged in the protection of the water environment to recognize the success of their efforts to promote safety and educate the industry.
