Texas Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (Texas Academy), the state affiliate of the 100,000+ member Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recognized Nikki Nies, MS, RD, LD, of Garland, as recipient of the coveted Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year Award during its annual conference and exhibition in Houston April 12-14.
The Recognized Young Dietitian Award is presented to persons who meet the criteria set forth for the award and who are judged by a panel of TDA members as most deserving of the recognition. The award is regarded among dietitians in the State of Texas as recognition of exceptional achievement and commitment to the profession of dietetics.
Criteria for selection of recipient of the Recognized Young Dietitian Award include:
- Member of the American Dietetic Association & Texas Dietetic Association.
- Active participation in the national, state or district association.
- Demonstrated concern for the promotion of optimal health and nutritional status of the population.
- Demonstrated leadership either in the Association or employment setting.
Nies holds a master’s degree from Benedictine University and is a rehab/long term care dietitian at Christian Care Center in Mesquite. Previously, she worked as a nutrition intern at Brinker International, the parent company to Maggiano’s and Chili’s to provide guidance on menu labeling initiatives.
She serves on multiple volunteer and appointed committees, including the current Texas Academy Northeast Region Director and the Chinese American in Dietetics Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group Newsletter Editor. Nies also serves on the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics’ Member Services Advisory Committee to provide member focused feedback on the benefits and programs that advocate for the dietetic profession.
