GarlandUSA implements, embraces Canvas

Aug. 24, 2020

To celebrate the implementation of Garland ISD’s new learning management system, district teachers showed off their creativity and skills in a special competition. The Canvas Homepage Challenge featured unique virtual classroom submissions from 32 participating campuses. More than 10,700 public votes determined our three winners: Shugart Elementary School’s Silvia Angelo, Webb Middle School’s Jake Smith and Naaman Forest High School’s Chelsie Lokke.

“We did it,” said Lokke in a Twitter post. “Thank you all for voting and voting again. This is going to be great for our classroom.”

Each winning educator will receive a monetary prize to purchase classroom technology or materials for remote learning.

Although the competition is over, the staff is still having a blast embellishing virtual classrooms. Superintendent Dr. López even created his own virtual office, complete with interactive icons that reveal fun facts.

GISD will continue to provide support as staff, students and families hone their Canvas skills. Be sure to check out the Canvas for families webpage to review weekly updates and see additional resources.
