GCPAAA brings home awards

Jul. 13, 2023

Members of the Garland Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (GCPAAA) recently attended the 31st Texas Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association Awards Dinner in College Station. The group was recognized with two awards.

Gale Dunn received the 2023 Bill Ennis Alumni Member of the Year Award. This award is given to the alumni member that demonstrates outstanding service and commitment to the CPA, the police department and the community.

The Alumni Member of the Year is selected from nominations received from all CPAs in the State of Texas. Dunn graduated from Garland’s CPA Class #36 in 2010. During the past 13 years, she has served five terms on the board of directors. She is currently serving her third term as vice president. In addition, Dunn serves on multiple committees and supports and oversees multiplegcpaaa programs that benefit the CPA, the GPD and the community. The association members are proud of her accomplishments and appreciate her years of service.

The association also received the 2023 TCPAAA Membership of the Year award. This award recipient is selected from nominations received from CPA Alumni Associations throughout the State of Texas. It is not selected based on the size of the association. The award recognizes the association that has demonstrated both membership growth and retention. It also recognizes the internal programs that the association implements to support and build its membership.

Each year the TCPAAA Nomination Committee compares the nominated associations based on meeting and activity participation. The GCPAAA has grown to over 300 active members who continue to support the Garland Police Department. The department hosts two Citizen Police Academy classes per year.

Congratulations to all the GCPAAA members who support the organization throughout the year to grow our membership while supporting the Garland PD.

About:

In 1993, the GCPAAA was founded as a stand-alone, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. The group is independent of the Garland Police Department, but exists to provide an avenue for continued involvement for the CPA graduates who wish to give back to the department and community. The GCPAAA is an all-volunteer organization comprised of people whose interest in law enforcement and appreciation of the GPD brings them together in service.

GCPAAA monthly board meetings are the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. All current members are invited.

General meetings are the second Monday of each month beginning at 7 p.m. At the general meetings, we conduct association business and hear a presentation from a guest speaker.
