GCPAAA service projects make difference in community

Nov. 7, 2021

Saturday, Nov. 6members of the Garland Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association (GCPAAA) gathered at two locations to collect canned goods and nonperishable foods for the New Liberty Baptist Church Community Outreach program.  The association is grateful to everyone who dropped off food items as well as the members who collected the items. The group is also grateful to the Garland Police Department officers and staff who dropped off itemsgcpaaa at the police station.  As a result of the generous donations, the GCPAAA was able to deliver 1,466 items to the food pantry at the Liberty Baptist Church. The food will be distributed to those in need by the church’s community outreach program.

Little Pockets Big Hearts

Wednesday, Nov. 3, Pat Hayes, along with a group of GCPAAA members as well as employees of the police department delivered 69 coats, hats and gloves to local elementary schools for children in need of winter clothing. The program Little Pockets Big Hearts started in 2008 and works with school counselors and SRO officers to deliver the coats to children in need.

The GCPAAA is proud to fund this project and grateful for the following members who work diligently to purchase, prepare and deliver the coats each year.  Thanks to Pat Hayes, Bill Hayes, Jennifer Lewis, Cathy Tison, Marilyn Parker, Gale Dunn, Vickie Thompson, and Debby Bookhout for all their hard work on this special project.  See photos: https://www.facebook.com/GCPAAA
