Make plans now to see all the Garland Civic Theatre (GCT) productions in the 54th season of theater excellence. Descriptions and dates are below:

Something Rotten” (regional premiere) – GCT will begin the season Sept. 10-26 – Book by John O’Farrell and Karey Kirkpatrick / music and lyrics by Karey and Wayne Kirkpatrick.

gctThe Old Couple” – Oct. 22 – Nov. 7

Felix Unger! Oscar Madison! Murray the Cop! The Pidgeon Sisters!  The classic and timeless Broadway play comes back to Garland Civic Theatre.

Plaid Tidings” – Dec. 3-19 – Book by Stuart Ross, music and lyrics by various artists.gct

Fans of “Forever Plaid” will love this nifty package tied with a big Christmas bow on top! Filled with Christmas standards that have all been “Plaid-erized,” our boys are back to do their Christmas Special. At first, they aren’t sure why they’ve returned, but a phone call from the heavenly Rosemary Clooney lets them know that they’re needed to put a little harmony into a discordant world.

Sprinkled among the Christmas offerings are audience favorites like their riotous three-minute and 11-second version of “The Ed Sullivan Show” – this time featuring the Rockettes, the Chipmunks and The Vienna Boys Choir and a Plaid Caribbean Christmas which puts the “Day-O” in Excelsis! This is a holiday treat that is truly “heaven-sent!”

gctWait Until Dark” – Jan. 28 – Feb. 13, 2022 – By Frederick Knott.

In 1944, Susan Hendrix, a blind Greenwich Village housewife, is imperiled by a trio of men in her own apartment. As the suspense builds, Susan discovers that her blindness just might be the key to her escape, but she and her tormentors must wait until dark to play out this classic thriller’s chilling conclusion.

Made into a classic film featuring Audrey Hepburn! This production contains strong language and some violence. Age recommendation: 16+.

On Golden Pond” – March 11-27, 2022 – By Ernest Thompson.gct

The loons are back again on Golden Pond and so are Norman Thayer, a retired professor, and Ethel who have had a summer cottage there since early in their marriage. This summer their daughter Chelsea — whom they haven’t seen for years — feels she must be there for Norman’s birthday. She and her fiance are on their way to Europe the next day but will be back in a couple of weeks to pick up the fiance’s son. When she returns Chelsea is married and her stepson has the relationship with her father that she always wanted. Will father and daughter be able to communicate at last?

“You Can’t Take It with You” – April 29 – May 15, 2022 – By George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart.

Sweet-natured Alice Sycamore falls for banker’s son Tony Kirby. But when she invites her snooty prospective in-laws to dinner to give their blessing to the marriage, Alice’s peculiar extended family — including philosophical grandfather Martin Vanderhof, hapless fledgling ballerina sister Essie and fireworks enthusiast father, Paul — might be too eccentric for the staid Kirbys. Throw in a Russian ballet teacher, an Italian ice salesperson, and Alice’s mother who never quite finished the play or her paintings and you have a hilarious evening at the theater!

“A Tuna Christmas” – Nov. 26, 27, 28

As an added treat, GCT will bring back “A Tuna Christmas” to ring in the holiday season! In this hilarious sequel to “Greater Tuna,” it’s Christmas in the third-smallest town in Texas. Radio station personalities Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie report on Yuletide activities.

All GCT shows are in the small theater at the Granville Arts Center, 300 North Fifth Street in downtown Garland. Click here for tickets. Click here to see the seating chart.
