Garland Civic Theatre will present “Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story” beginning Jan. 24, 2019 and running through Feb. 10.
Buddy Holly, in his two-year career, accomplished more than many artists accomplish in 30- or 40-year careers. He wrote and produced his own music and was a major influence on rock icons including The Beatles, Eric Clapton, The Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan.
Rolling Stone Magazine ranked him No. 13 in its list of “100 Greatest Artists.”
In his trademark black horn-rimmed glasses and suits, Holly, a Lubbock, Texas native, rocked audiences with songs like “Peggy Sue,” “That’ll Be the Day,” “Rave On,” and “Oh Boy.” His short, yet brilliant, career came to a tragic end when he was killed in a plane crash in 1959. He was 22-years-old.
The GCT production includes more than 20 of Holly’s hits such as “Raining in My Heart,” “That’ll Be the Day,” “Everyday,” and “Not Fade Away.” Seen
by more than 22 million people around the world, “Buddy – The Buddy Holly Story” will have you on your feet and, according to The Boston Globe, “send you out of the theatre on an unstoppable high.”
The production begins with a preview night Thursday, Jan. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Remaining shows are Fridays at 8 p.m., Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sunday matinees at 2:30 p.m. The show runs through Sunday, Feb. 10.
