Mar. 2, 2016

Garland Civic Theatre continues its season with Neil Simon’s “Fools,” which will be directed by Kyle McClaran and runs March 3-26 in the small theatre at the Granville Arts Center, 300 North Fifth Street in downtown Garland.

“Fools” is a true minute by minute laugh riot about Leon Tolchinsky who has landed a terrific teaching job in an idyllic Russian hamlet. When he arrives he finds that the town has been cursed with Chronic Stupidity for 200 years and Leon’s job is to break the curse. No one tells him that if he stays over 24 hours and fails to break the curse, he too becomes Stupid. But, he has fallen in love with a girl so Stupid that she has only recently learned how to sit down.

The Thursday, March 3, show is the preview and will begin at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday night shows begin at 8 p.m. and the matinees are at 2:30 p.m.

Tickets are $22 and may be purchased in person at the Granville Arts Center Box Office at 300 North Fifth Street, by calling 972-205-2790 or online at www.garlandartsboxoffice.com.

Also make plans now to see GCT’s last production of this season, “Hank Williams: Lost Highway” by Randal Myler and Mark Harelik. This musical biography of the legendary singer and songwriter, also directed by Kyle McClaran, will run April 14 – May 7.

This who will take spectators on an emotional journey from Hank Williams’ beginnings on the Louisiana Hayride to his triumphs on the Grand Ole Opry to his eventual self-destruction at the age of 29. Along the way, audiences are treated to classic country songs like “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” and “Hey, Good Lookin'” which communicate an inspiring message when set in the context of Williams’ life.
