Garland Civic Theatre will offer two special workshops for youth actors at the theatre’s facilities at 2703 National Place in Garland. Both are July 30.
The first will be Story Adventure for ages 7-11 from 9 a.m. – noon. Explore the wonderful world of story-drama with storyteller Dana Proulx-Willis as you first hear a favorite tale performed and then bring it to life yourselves!
This nonthreatening form of theatre lets youth be in a play and watch a play at the same time. There are many opportunities for the bold to shine and for the shy to come forward in this wonderful theatrical venue. It’s Broadway meets Let’s Pretend as students look at how to stage a story, from set layout to characterization, from blocking to body positions. This workshop will engage your children in a fun way as they also learn the basics of drama and storytelling. Don’t miss the adventure.
The second will be Master the Monologue, Ace the Audition! for ages 12-15 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Do you have the right monologue? Are you presenting it in the right way? This workshop will focus on basic skills needed for a successful audition.
Work with several monologues and explore enhancing techniques to bring the monologues to life. Bring a monologue you like or select one from the theatre, and get ready to go over the nuts and bolts of presenting it!
We will also go over two other frequently requested audition items: Cold Reading and Improvisation. Hone your skills and be able to think on your feet as theater artist / playwright Dana Proulx-Willis takes you through improvisation exercises, cold-reading tips and monologue techniques to enhance your performance.
The fee for each session is $45 which must be paid to reserve a place in the workshop. There will be snacks for break time and each participant will receive a coupon for a free ticket (when a regular ticket is purchased) to attend a theatre performance.
Call Garland Civic Theatre at 972-485-8884 to register for the workshop.
