GFC presents scholarships, awards

The Garland Federation of Clubs celebrated its 2019 scholarship winners as well as the recipients of its club awards, at the May 1 meeting.

 

Scholarships were awarded to Breanna Nguyen from North Garland High School, Shaina Banh, Natalie Campos and D’yonne West from Garland High School. Three of the scholarships were funded by the Garland Federation of Clubs. The fourth was provided by Altrusa International of Garland.

 

The organization’s Youth Achievement Award was presented to Danita Mathew. Adriana Pernetz from Centerville Elementary School was named Teacher of the Year. Lynda Grimes received the Outstanding Senior Citizen Award and Pam Clark was named the Roxie Scott Club Person of the Year. Altrusa gfcInternational of Garland won the Outstanding Club Award.

 

Next year’s GFC officers were also installed at the meeting. Nelda Landrum will serve as president for 2019-2020. Other officers installed include Jimmie Smith, Ann Butcher, Shirley Raymer, Ann MacDonald, Sue Floyd, Barbara Boyden, Pam Clark and Brenda Gardner.

 

About GFC: Originally called the Business and Professional Women’s Club, the Garland Federation of Clubs was established in 1951. Meetings are held the first Wednesday, September-May at Brookdale at Club Hill.
