Officer Shaun Smith
Garland Police Department
1891 Forest Lane
Garland, TX 75040

Heroes are ordinary people who make themselves extraordinary, and serve others at whatever the cost.

Officer Shaun Smith, the Garland Fire Department would like to thank you, and acknowledge the outstanding job done to help the Garland Firefighters and Paramedics on August 29, 2015.

The incident unfolded as follows:

“GFD Ambulance 2 and Engine 2 were dispatched to Patricia Lane for a call involving a gunshot wound.

While staged, the patient left the scene and found Officer Smith on Garland Rd. Officer Smith called for the ambulance. Officer Smith, with his quick thinking, examined the GSW and applied a CAT tourniquet and a very well dressed pressure dressing. This stopped the bleeding.

Officer Smith stayed with the patient until A2 arrived on scene; he then passed on all information about the patient, the injury, and the medical care that was provided to the patient.

E2 and A2 were very impressed with Officer Smith’s quick thinking and professionalism, as it ultimately saved this person’s life.

His selflessness, quick thinking, and positive attitude under pressure deserve recognition. He stepped outside of his normal job description. It is commendable that there are officers like this that are willing to put the patient first and assist GFD.”

On behalf of Garland Fire Department, Officer Shaun Smith, Badge # 9284, is awarded “The Public Safety Heroism Award, for going above and beyond the call of duty.”

Respectfully,

Raymond L. Knight

Fire Chief
