On Sunday, Dec. 8, 104 Garland children were each given $175 to spend on holiday gifts for themselves or other family members at the 34th Kids’ Christmas Shopping Spree, organized by the Garland Fire Fighters Association.
Much of the money was raised by Garland firefighters through automatic deductions from their paychecks as well as other private contributions. Each year the children are given $125 each, but thanks to a very generous donation this year, each child was able to spend an additional $50.
Members of the Garland Fire Fighters Association, Garland Mayor Scott LeMay, members of the Garland City Council and members of the Garland Police Department spent time with the children as they picked out toys and clothes for themselves and their families. Santa also made a visit and took photos with the kids.
