GISD April 17 update, grading clarifications

Apr. 19, 2020

Per Governor Greg Abbott’s executive order issued today, April 17, schools will be closed for the remainder of the 2019-2020 academic school year. At-home learning will continue through May 21, the last day of classes.

4/17/20 update – grading clarifications

We are reaching out to provide clarification on our at-home learning grading expectations. Our original letter should have stated “no grades will be recorded for the weeks of March 16-March 27”, not “March 16 – April 10.”  We apologize for the confusion. The information below is intended to address questions.

Grading Clarity

  • No grades will be recorded for the weeks of March 16 – March 27, as students and teachers were adjusting to the new instructional program.
  • Assignments completed by students during the time from March 30 to April 10 will be graded and recorded, with no penalty to those students who had not started at-home learning.
  • Effective the week of April 13, all students are responsible for completing one assignment a week per subject for elementary and two assignments a week per subject for secondary.

We have also updated the grading FAQs.

We appreciate your continued patience and your understanding of this oversight. Thank you for your ongoing partnership in the education of your children.  We remain #GISDAlwaysConnected.
