GISD celebrates teachers receiving Teacher Incentive Allotment

Mar. 25, 2024

Garland Independent School District (GISD) is proud to announce that the district’s Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) system has been validated for the second consecutive year, marking a significant achievement for educators.

In GISD, 289 teachers have been selected to receive recognition and rewards for their outstanding performance in the classroom as part of the TIA program. These teachers have demonstrated exceptional dedication and excellence and are being celebrated for their contributions to student success.

According to the Texas Education Agency (TEA), TIA provides outstanding teachers with an accessible pathway to a six-figure salary. Teachers can earn one of three levels of designation—Recognized, Exemplary, or Master. Once a teacher is designated, they generate an annual allotment for their school district based on their campus of employment as long as they meet the eligibility requirements by the TEA.

The TIA designation will be applied to the teacher’s State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC) for five years starting in 2024 and comes with state-funded stipends allocated based on state funding. This acknowledgment rewards individual teachers and highlights the district’s ongoing efforts to support and incentivize excellence in education.

The success of GISD’s TIA program is credited to the diligent work of the district’s TIA leadership team, who collaborated with external consultants to refine cut scores and thoroughly scrutinize data submissions. This rigorous process has ensured that the program remains fair, transparent, and aligned with the district’s educational goals.

To qualify for a designation level, teachers had to meet specific thresholds, including achieving high scores in T-TESS evaluations, demonstrating student growth, and maintaining a high level of participation. These criteria reflect GISD’s commitment to fostering continuous improvement and excellence among its educators.

As the district awaits the announcement of specific award amounts from the TEA, teachers can anticipate seeing the fruits of their labor in their June 2024 paychecks. It’s important to note that only teachers employed with GISD as of the June 2024 payroll date will be eligible for the award disbursements.

The success of GISD’s TIA program not only celebrates individual achievements but also underscores the district’s unwavering commitment to providing high-quality education and fostering a culture of excellence.

As educators continue to lead the way toward student success, GISD remains dedicated to supporting and recognizing their invaluable contributions.
