Rain and lightning caused the cancellation of two Garland ISD high school football games, Rowlett High School’s contest against Rockwall High School and Lakeview Centennial High School’s game against North Mesquite High School. Both were scheduled for Friday, Sept. 7.
Raiders get win over Irving
The North Garland Raiders defeated Irving High School by a final score of 27-6 at Irving’s Ellis Stadium. The Raiders scored first in the Thursday, Sept. 6, game and held the lead throughout the contest. Sabron Woods scored twice for NGHS and carried the ball 19 times for 122 yards.
Uzochukwu Ebinama, who plays both offense and defense intercepted an Irving HS pass and later scored a TD on a 13-yard run. D’Rory Cozine also scored for the Raiders on a 17-yard rush.
The NG defense held Irving HS to 130 yards on the game.
SGHS defeats W.T. White
The South Garland Colonels scored an impressive 48 points in their Thursday, Sept. 6, victory over W.T. White High School.
Colonels’ quarterback Jaquarion Turner was responsible for four of his team’s scores and also ran the ball 22 times for 320 yards on the night. Kevonta Wilson caught a 27-yard Turner pass for a TD for the first score of the game and D.J. Williams scored for the Colonels on a 7-yard run.
SGHS put together 613 rushing yards on the game.
Owls lose to Royse City
The Garland Owls suffered a 32-0 loss against Royse City at Garland’s Williams Stadium Thursday, Sept. 6. Royse City’s defense held the Owls to less than 100 total yards and six first downs.
Rangers defeated by Arlington Lamar
The Naaman Forest Rangers were defeated by Arlington Lamar High School Friday, Sept. 7, by a final score of 20-0. Both the passing and running games of the Rangers were shut down by the Arlington Lamar defense. NFHS total of rushing yards was -4 and passing yard total was 22. The Rangers were also held to two first downs.
Mustangs lose to Euless Trinity
The Sachse Mustangs were defeated by Euless Trinity High School 20-14 at the Cotton Bowl Saturday, Sept. 8. The Mustangs scored in the first quarter on a 2-yard pass from Anthony Beltran to Trent Dean and in the third quarter, Beltran hit Derrick Rose on a 50-yard TD pass.
The Mustangs got 18 first downs compared to ET’s 11 and had 283 total yards compared to ET’s 207 but they had also had 84 penalty yards and two turnovers.
