GISD HS football: Week 1, non-district

The high school football season began this week with Garland High School and Naaman Forest High School playing Thursday, Aug. 29. Sachse, Rowlett, Lakeview Centennial, North Garland and South Garland high schools’ games were Friday, Aug. 30.

 

Garland Owls defeat Irving MacArthur HS

 

Garland HS defeated Irving MacArthur HS 35-22 at Garland’s Williams Stadium. Jordan Hudson scored three GHS touchdowns on 74-, 5- and 4-yard pass receptions from quarterback Sergio Perez.

 

Ellis Rogers scored on a 35-yard pass from Perez and Jayshon Powers scored on a 4-yard run. Powers carried the ball 33 times for 134 yards.

 

Sergio finished the game at 10-22 for 189 yards. Hudson caught seven passes for 130 yards.

 

The Owls put together 335 yards, 189 passing and 146 rushing.

 

Naaman Forest Rangers defeated by McKinney Boyd HS

 

NFHS was defeated by McKinney Boyd HS 45-7. The Rangers’ score came on a 1-yard run by quarterback Austin Valdez in the second quarter. Turnovers, three fumbles and three interceptions, plagued the Rangers.

 

Mustangs get 33-30 win over Coppell HS

 

Sachse collected 405 yards in their game against Coppell HS, 272 rushing yards and 133 passing. Parker Wells, Xavier Forman and Jordan Nabors got time at the quarterback position. Wells finished at 6-9 with 55 yards. Forman was 7-11 with 43 yards and Nabors was 1-2 with 35 yards.

 

Shon Coleman carried the ball 26 times for 132 yards and caught four passes for 63 yards. He scored two of the Mustangs’ touchdowns on 4- and 12-yard rushes.  Jay Fair scored on a 22-yard pass from Wells and Jay Nabors scored on a 4-yard run. The Mustang defense scored on a 32-yard fumble return by Quinton Williams.

 

Eagles defeated by Prosper HS

 

The Eagles were defeated by Prosper HS by a score of 31-7. The RHS score came on a 27-yard interception return by Taiwan Edwards in the first quarter.

 

Quarterback Alex Routt finished the game at 15-38 with 147 yards. He threw one interception. Antonio Hull caught eight passes for 100 yards.

 

Raiders get 42-7 win Frisco Liberty HS

 

NGHS quarterback Timothy Gauthier threw for 173 yards and ran for 95 yards on the game. Sabron Woods carried the ball 17 times for 74 yards. Duke Parker had five catches for 105 yards.

 

Woods scored three Raider touchdowns on 7-, 3- and 4-yard runs. Parker scored on a 46-yard pass reception and Alex Garcia scored on a 6-yard reception.

 

The defense scored on a fumble return by Kerrington Henson for the first score of the game.

 

Colonels defeated by Princeton HS

 

South Garland HS was defeated by Princeton HS by a score of 41-0. Jalil Brown picked up 82 yards on nine carries for the Colonels.

 

Patriots defeat Arlington Seguin HS

 

LCHS got a 32-21 win over Arlington Seguin HS with their first two scores coming on safeties in the first quarter. Gavin Harris tackled the ball carrier in the end zone and Bryan Jones returned a blocked PAT. Harris scored again in the fourth quarter on a 70-yard interception return.

 

Caleb Reed added a touchdown on a 72-yard pass reception from quarterback Jarret Adams. Camar Wheaton scored twice on 3- and 17-yard rushes. He collected 104 yards on 22 carries on the night. Reed had two catches for 70 yards. Adams ended the game at 9-21 with 123 yards.
