The Garland Independent School District recently celebrated its Teachers of the Year as well as its Paraprofessionals of the Year.
Every year, each school selects one outstanding educator to receive its coveted Campus Teacher of the Year title. Award winners are invited to the annual Teacher of the Year luncheon, where they receive a commemorative gift and find out who is named Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year. Weaver Elementary School’s Andrea Lozano and Houston Middle School’s Debra Howard snagged this year’s honors.
As the backbone of Garland ISD, teachers are the frontrunners who encourage student success and academic excellence. They dedicate countless hours and spare time to students and families, and their hard work and devotion does not go unnoticed.
Each school also selected one outstanding paraprofessional to receive its coveted Paraprofessional of the Year title. A district committee then selected the Elementary and Secondary Paraprofessionals of the Year. Elementary and Secondary Paraprofessionals of the Year were also named – Back Elementary School’s Mary Saathoff and Lyle Middle School’s La’Marion Patterson.
Paraprofessionals are essential assets to GISD. Whether they are assisting principals, aiding teachers or helping parents, paraprofessionals enhance the district and promote student success.
