For the second year in a row, Garland ISD is being singled out as a premier district for Visual and Performing Arts. GISD recently received a 2020 District of Distinction Award from the Texas Art Education Association.
“Garland ISD has set a high standard for visual arts advocacy, integrated visual arts curriculum, encouraged creativity and community participation,” said Stacia Gower, Chair of the Administration and Supervision Division of TAEA. “With the challenges educators faced this past school year it is a true testament to their skill, dedication, and flexibility that the quality of their programs continued strong and comprehensive.”
More than 1,000 districts were eligible to apply for the 2020 award. After submitting documentation, each one was evaluated with a rigorous 12-point rubric. The rubric examines a district’s visual art program from participation in TAEA through membership, exhibitions, and contests to community engagement in the visual arts through field experiences, community service, and collaboration with other content areas. Just 42 districts received a distinction this year, placing them among the top 4 percent statewide.
Being recognized for promoting the arts throughout the community and providing a well-rounded education that reaches all learners, GISD will be honored with other 2020 District of Distinction Award winners at the TAEA conference in November.
