GISD schools among top 10 in North Texas

Recently releasing its annual ranking of the top-performing schools across Texas, the organization Children at Risk included two from Garland ISD. Hillside and Kimberlin Academies for Excellence are among the top 10 elementary schools in North Texas. They earned the No. 4 and No. 6 spots, respectively. Additionally, out of more than 4,500 elementary schools ranked throughout the state, Hillside and Kimberlin came in at 12 and 16, respectively.

 

“This distinction proves what we already know to be true,” said Superintendent Dr. Ricardo López. “Garland ISD offers the best education around. We are extremely proud of all our campuses.”

 

Three additional schools were recognized in Children at Risk’s rankings as well. Northlake, Roach and Southgate elementaries each received a 2018 Gold Ribbon School designation.

 

To determine annual honorees, Children at Risk looks at student achievement, campus performance, and growth in standardized test scores over time. The organization then awards letteschoolsr grades of A-F. Gold Ribbon Schools are those that earn a grade of A or B and serve a student population that is more than 75-percent economically disadvantaged. They are also not charter or magnet campuses.
