GISD updates COVID guidelines

Jul. 26, 2021

The following changes have been made to the 2021-22 Garland ISD protocols:

  • The use of face masks is highly encouraged. Garland ISD is unable to mandate mask-wearing based on Governor Abbott’s Executive Order.
  • Based on new CDC guidance, temperature screenings and Plexiglas dividers are no longer required. However, Plexiglas in the cafeteria will be available for students upon parental request.
  • Staff and parents will self-screen students, including bused students, for COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Playground equipment will be accessible to all students during recess.
While there will be less restrictive recess guidelines, hand sanitizer will be utilized upon exit and entry.
  • Field trips will be allowed for the 2021-22 school year.
  • All confirmed COVID-19 cases will be sent to parents weekly in one letter.
  • COVID-19 rapid testing will be available for symptomatic students and those exposed on campus.
  • Based on CDC guidance, fully-vaccinated people for COVID-19 do not have to quarantine if exposed.
  • The daily antimicrobial misting of district facilities will continue.
