GMTA hosts piano festival, recitals

Approximately 130 local piano students, 12 teachers and four judges participated in the spring festival sponsored by Garland Music Teac

hers Association. This all-day event took place April 29 in the sanctuary and Schreiber Hall at First United Methodist Church of Garland.

 

The festival provided an opportunity for piano and voice students to prepare a Baroque and/or Romantic style selection. After performing for a judge, each student was given feedback and a rating. All performing students earned a I, II or III received a ribbon, certificate and judges’ comments.

 

Garland Music Teachers Association was honored to have Eldred Marshall, Shannon Talley, Erika Kinser and Joseph Tan served as judges.

 

On May 6, GMTA honored 80 piano soloists who

earned a 1+ at the festival. After students performed in one of the three recitals they  were presented with one or two special medals. Thanks Luzviminda Malibiran for making it possible for her church, Monica Park Christian to host these recitals.

 

The piano teachers who entered students in the spring festival are:  Beverly Ryan, Joy Pagaduan, Carol Sharp, Bev Panasik, Genie Hughes, Joyce Clark, Jennifer Powell, Karen Young, Deanna Cabal, Kasey Mahan, Theresa Canaday and Laura Beeman.

 

About: GMTA, based in Garland for over 50 years is a non-profit organization that provides activities for students that include

festivals, performance contests, recitals, composition contests, theory tests, and senior scholarships. For teachers, GMTA provides monthly meetings with guest speakers and/or performers to inspire and educate. The members of GMTA are close colleagues and provide support to each other as well as work together as a team for GMTA. Founded in 1963, Garland Music Teachers Association strives for excellence in music teaching. GMTA currently includes teachers of piano, voice and woodwinds. It also provides many opportunities for students to grow.

 

MTA is affiliated with the Music Teachers National Association and the Texas Music Teachers Association.
