During the school year, Garland Music Teachers Association has provided students with many performance opportunities. These include a monthly recital series and Christmas Play-a-thon at Macy’s. Students have also played for judges and have received awards and critiques in a jazz festival, hymn festival, and sonata/sonatina festival.
In March, GMTA students will honor the composer, David Karp, in the monthly recital series by playing his music. He will autograph their music. Following the recital, students and teachers will meet him at a reception.
In April, GMTA piano and voice students will be adjudicated in the spring festival which is a classical festival. Participants will perform pieces from the classical era (1750-1800) and/or contemporary era (1900-present). Students that receive a 1+ rating will perform the next day in an honors recital and receive a gold medal.
