Good Samaritans spotlights GHS volunteers

May. 17, 2020

Sarah Bailey is a graduating senior from Garland High School. She has been part of Garland High’s International Baccalaureate Program and the Good Sam team. She will be attending Duke University majoring in environmental engineering.

In spring 2019, Sarah joined a team of her Garland High School friends to begin the Good Sam Community Garden and compost. Sarah shared what Good Sam and the garden means to her.

“The thing I enjoyed the most about being part of Good Sam and the garden is the people I met, both volunteers and the clients. Everyone is so supportive, uplifting and curious. I always leave in a better mood than when I arrived. Being involved has given me so much more hope and understanding of the power of a small community uniting to help others.”

Sarah’s favorite things to do in her spare time are yoga, spending time outdoors and binge-watching Netflix shows. Her long-term dream is to open a zero-waste grocery store where all items would have packaging that is either nonexistent, reusable or recyclable.

We wish Sarah all the best and cannot wait to see all her accomplishments!  Sarah, thank you for all your time, effort, leadership, and compassion in helping our community. Good Sam has been blessed by your presence and talents.

Isaac Yu is a graduating senior from Garland High School. He has been part of Garland High’s International Baccalaureate Program and the Good Sam team. Isaac will be attending Yale University majoring in English or Ethics, Politics, and Economics (EP&E).  His hope is to work in law, politics or journalism.

In spring 2019, Isaac joined forces with a group of his Garland High School friends to start the Good Sam Community Garden and compost. His favorite part of the experience was being around other Good Sam volunteers and knowing that there is a strong force for good in the Garland Community. Isaac also enjoys hiking and playing cello in his spare time.

We wish Isaac all the best and cannot wait to see all he accomplishes. Isaac, thank you for all your time, effort, leadership and compassion in helping our community. Good Sam has been blessed by your presence and talents.
