On May 8, just after 4:30 p.m., Garland Police Department officers responded to a call about a gunshot wound at a gas station located at the Walmart in the 500 block of West I-30 Freeway. GPD officers arrived on scene and observed a woman who had an apparent gunshot wound. Garland Fire Department paramedics transported the woman to a nearby hospital where she later died from her injuries.
Detectives learned the woman was at the gas station speaking with patrons. She spoke with a male sitting in his vehicle parked at one of the gas pumps and at some point during the encounter, the male shot the woman. The male then fled the area in his vehicle without notifying the police.
The license plate of the vehicle, which was a white four-door Mazda, was obtained. The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Aaron Haas, was located and arrested at a house in the 1500 block of Walnut Ridge Drive in Rockwall.
Based on the investigation, Haas is charged with murder and he is currently in the Garland Detention Center. No bond has been set.
The victim has been identified as 33-year-old Jessica Watkins.
