Update: Suspect arrested in shooting death of 22-year-old female — The victim of the Dec. 17 shooting has been identified as 22-year-old Bianca Vasquez. Garland Police Department detectives identified 19-year-old Lucio Angel Ortega as the suspect responsible for the murder of Vasquez. With the combined effort of multiple law enforcement agencies, Ortega was located and arrested in Caldwell County, Texas. Arrangements are being made to have Ortega transferred to the Garland Detention Center.
Ortega is being charged with Murder and bond has been set at $1,000,000. The investigation remains ongoing, and detectives are still trying to determine what led to the shooting.

GPD investigates murder
On Dec. 17, just after 11:30 p.m., Garland police officers responded to a gunshot disturbance in the 1700 block of South Third Street. While responding, GPD received additional information about someone being shot. Officers arrived and located a female near the roadway in the 300 block of Bella Drive suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.
Homicide investigators responded to the scene and are investigating the female’s death as a murder.
The victim is a 22-year-old female. Her name is being withheld pending next of kin notifications. This is an active investigation. GPD detectives ask if anyone has information regarding this shooting to call the Garland Police Department at 972-485-4840.
