On the evening of Tuesday, May 2, Garland Independent School District officials were made aware of a social media post that was threatening in nature. Garland ISD notified the Garland Police Department at which time an investigation was launched.
Detectives learned that an Instagram message was sent to a GISD student, alleging planned violence at Garland High School. The student assumed the threat was directed toward Garland High School. However, the message did not specially mention GHS. The post and conversation were later shared with others and quickly spread across social media.
Garland Police Department detectives are actively working to identify the person(s) responsible for making the post. They have determined that the post did not originate locally and was sent from somewhere out of state. The account that originated the post has since been deactivated.
The Garland Police Department does not have information to believe this post was a credible threat. However, out of an abundance of caution for all involved, extra police personnel will be present at the affected campus.
This is an ongoing investigation.
