GPD investigates deaths of adult, infant

May. 20, 2021

On May 18, at approximately 5 p.m. the Garland Police Department (GPD) responded to a call in an apartment community in the 6300 block of North Shiloh Road.

A female caller stated that her baby was not breathing and advised an adult male was deceased. Within minutes, responding GPD officers arrived on the scene and administered CPR on the infant child.

Garland Fire Department paramedics transported the baby to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

The adult male was located inside a garage, where GFD paramedics pronounced him deceased at the scene.

The initial investigation indicates that the male took his own life. There did not appear to be any external physical trauma to the infant. Investigators are waiting for the Dallas County Medical Examiner to determine the exact cause of death to the infant.

GPD detectives are working to establish a complete timeline of events. The deceased adult male was the child’s father and was in a relationship with the mother.

This is a tragic incident and GPD’s condolences go out to the family of the deceased. The police department has a Victim’s Assistance Advocate to provide help to the family. We are also providing grief assistance to our first responders who responded to the call for help.
