Double shooting ends in murder

The Garland Police Department responded to two gunshot wound calls Dec. 10, just before 6:30 p.m. The calls were minutes apart, one from at a residence in the 500 block of Hillcrest Drive and the second at an apartment complex in the 100 block of South Jupiter Road.

 

A male subject was located at the residence on Hillcrest and was transported to a local hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. A second male subject was located at the apartment community who was also transported to a local hospital but was later pronounced deceased.

 

Garland Police Department detectives responded and are investigating the death as a murder. It is believed both subjects were shot at the apartment complex off of South Jupiter Road.

 

The male who was pronounced deceased has been identified as 51-year-old Leonardo Rodriguez, a Garland resident.

 

Update:

 

David Alexis Cardiel, 18, has been arrested and is charged with Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon and Tampering with Evidence. Detectives are looking at Cardiel as possibly being involved in the shooting.
