On the morning of April 6, Garland Police Department Traffic Investigators arrested Marcelino Delos Santos, Jr. for his involvement in the double fatality crash that occurred on March 27.
On March 27, at approximately 6:50 a.m., Garland residents Gilberto Campos Molinero and Artemio Licea Bolanos were on their way to work when they were struck by a full-size pickup truck that was driven by Delos Santos, Jr.
Molinero and Bolanos were traveling west on Casalita Drive when the suspect vehicle, which was traveling north on South First Street ran the red light. As a result, the pickup truck struck the sedan at the intersection of South First Street and Casalita Drive.
Molinero, the driver of the sedan, died at the scene. The passenger, Bolanos, was transported to a hospital where he died because of his injuries.
The driver of the pickup, Delos Santos, Jr., was not injured.
The preliminary investigation revealed that Delos Santos, Jr. was traveling at a high rate of speed, ran the red light and was texting on his cellphone when the crash occurred.
Delos Santos, Jr. was charged with two counts of Manslaughter and is currently in the Garland Jail. No bond has been set. This is an ongoing investigation.
