Garland Police Department detective Tommy Barnes recently lost a courageous battle against cancer. GPD said in an announcement that they will miss him but take solace in knowing that Barnes is in a better place and no longer in pain.
Barnes was an exemplary police officer and detective, and he served with honor, integrity and with unwavering commitment to justice. He also always strived to help others, no matter the problem. His fortitude at work extended to his brave fight against his illness. Despite his health challenges, Barnes always fought to go to work to be with his fellow officers and do his job.
The announcement continued, “We grieve the profound loss of Tommy, but he has left a legacy that will continue to inspire us all.”

Funeral arrangements:
Visitation is June 4 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home. Funeral is June 5 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Potters House Church. Burial follows at 2 p.m. at National Cemetery Dallas/Ft. Worth.
